Tools & Resources
With interviews being conducted via video call more than ever, I wanted to share some practical tips for candidates to put their best foot forward. Over the last few months many of us have gotten used to Teams or Zoom calls for work or to connect with friends and family. As is usual with interviews, it’s good to go the extra mile and prepare well in advance to stand out from other applicants.
Good luck!!
- Trial the application with someone to familiarise yourself with the functions and technology
- Make sure your device is charged or charging
- If possible, exchange phone numbers with the interview panel in case of technical issues
- Dress for the occasion despite the more casual setting – formal business attire
- Level the computer to your height – large books are great for that
- A computer/laptop usually creates a better picture compared to a phone
- A clear and clean background creates professional setting
- Feel free to use a screen background image – Something plain or with light colours vs something that distracts is preferred
- Ideally find a table or desk – No couches or the bed please 😉
- Make sure there are no loud background noises and maybe have your headset ready in case of echoed sound
- It’s perfectly fine to conduct the interview in the car if you’re a sales rep but please don’t drive during the interview!!
